Working Together

Working together!
The great thing about being neighbours is that you can 'drop in' from time to time!
Hamilton College and Netherhall Special School are neighbours in every sense of the word.
Learning and the achievement of our students are most important for both of us. We share resources too. However, the roles we take in our joint activities are really powerful for our children. For Hamilton students it means responsibility in action. Caring and mutual learning has developed over the months. Our students look forward to the projects connected with the curriculum and learning, but also we celebrate some of the main dates on our calendar together.

Enterprising Times.......

Mother's Day is important for all of us. Loving mum and being able to make, buy and sell gifts all seems to go together! That's exactly what we do. Enterprise education for Hamilton students is a must where even our year 7 are led to understand the value of money, organisation and hard work. Netherhall students love the Art work in particular and the stall we hold gives them valuable opportunities for learning Maths for real life situations. Easter gifts and our Business groups add to our joint enterprise. Design, technology and craft clubs also use our joint projects as goals for their work.... So, come and buy!

Jingle Bells and More......

Netherhall's Christmas Fayre is well known in our community. Parents and visitors love the gifts which Netherhall children make. The social contact with customers, managing money and communicating with the public are all essential skills for life. The Christmas Fayre gives Netherhall and Hamilton students a real learning opportunity. Skills for life are part of Hamilton's curriculum and our joint project enables them to use inter-personal skills with the public and young people from different backgrounds with a range of needs. This experience has spurred some of Hamilton's students to aspire to work with children with special learning needs.

World Book Day
Super Heroes was the theme to Netherhall's World Book day. Hamilton students were pleased to attend, they had a great day.

DEAR DEAR ME........
DEAR for us means - Drop Everything And Read. Reading and literacy are key areas for us to work on and enjoy. Hamilton's students read to Netherhall's children on a weekly basis. Not only that, they share books together making pictures and the voices they use to make the word on the page come to life. Reading is for life and World Book Day is a focus for both our schools. We share in activities and really enjoy characters coming to life. We make the stories as vivid as we can. The Comic Super Heroes project was a great success and parents were able to encourage full involvement of our students along with our teachers and assistants. Reading Buddies each Monday keeps the magic alive and we look forward to new themes next term...
